Long Days Journey Into Night Written by Eugene ONeill Directed by Robin Phillips In the Kreeger Theater March 30-May 6, 2012 Part of the Eugene ONeill Festival
Delusion and disenchantment have pitted the Tyrone family members against one another for decades. One fateful day, as their increasingly drunken hours slip by, they must either confront their defeated dreams or else be forever doomed to a cycle of guilt and resentment. Eugene ONeills autobiographical masterwork exposes the lies we tell, the deceptions we craft, and the undercurrent of compassion that, if uncovered, can redeem us in the end. This Pulitzer Prize-winning American treasure restores the drama to literature and the theater to art (New York Times).
Sunday, Tuesday & Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday & Saturday at 8:00 p.m. Saturday & Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Weekdays at noon on Tuesday, 4/17 and Wednesday, 4/25 Full calendar: http://tickets.arenastage.org/single/psDetail.aspx?psn=13192

Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra - Alexander's Feast

Sunday, April 22, 2012
|
|
Berkeley, CA -
The season's spectacular close is Handel's ode Alexander's Feast, or the Power of Music, based on the work by 17th Century English poet John Dryden, with three acclaimed vocal soloists and the Philharmonia Chorale. For their recent performances in Haydn's The Creation, the San Francisco Chronicle raved: "Dominique Labelle was nothing short of exquisite... Philip Cutlip was a lithe, muscular counterweight." The New York Sun has called James Taylor's singing "almost impossibly fresh, lovely - and accurate."
Handel's setting of this literary gem is a masterpiece, reminding concertgoers of music's ability to sway hearts and minds.
COST: $95, $83, $67, $53, $25.

The writers, from what we called the Dark Ages, will inspire and feed us in our dark times. They say such provocative things as, Every prophets name is a key as is every heart full of forgiveness and love.
The class will be using the book Love Poems from God: Twelve Sacred Voices From The East & West by Daniel Ladinsky. Please sign up for the class so that we can order enough books.
Rev. Alyzsa Van Til formerly taught Bible Interpretation at Unity School for Religious Studies, now known as Unity Institute. She has recently retired as minister at Unity of Brookings, Oregon.

San Jose, CA -
Music by John Sheppard
"...John Sheppard (c.1515-1558) was one of the leading contemporaries of Thomas Tallis. The two men collaborated in writing music for the English Chapel Royal during the reign of Queen Mary Tudor, when, Catholicism was restored in England for a brief period...On Elizabeth I's accession in 1558, Anglicanism again became the official religion in England. Since much of Sheppard's Latin music was not suited for the new liturgies, it rapidly fell out of favor and was no longer sung. His highly personal musical language, with sturdy melodic lines and unusual harmonies, makes him a composer worthy to be heard again today..." ~Davitt Moroney, Director
